I am an *almost* 30 stay-at-home mother. I spend nap times researching better ways to provide for my family. The purpose of all of this is to create a more sustainable lifestyle for us. I try to keep the exposure to chemicals to a minimum. I want my children to understand that their food is grown and not just bought at the store. We are starting a aquaponics garden in the spring. I am very excited about this! Not only will we have lots of NON-GMO veggies but we will have tilapia as well! Winning! I hope to have lots of excess veggies that I will be able to can and store in the pantry. It is my hope to never have to buy canned food from a grocery store ever again. I want to make everything.... from condiments to stews.
Recently I've tried my hand at canning and dehydrating food. Canning has been so full of trial and error that I can't even begin to talk about it. It makes me so nervous.... I mean, no one wants to give their family botulism! So far I have made dilly beans, a few types of relish, and pickles. Oh those pickles. Not what I expected. AT ALL. But I digress...
I have also taken steps to reduce our need to buy disposable items. I purchased cloth napkins from Amazon (You can see them here). I also have purchased extra cleaning cloths and kitchen towels. This has greatly reduced our usage of paper towels.
This is just an *oh so very small* glimpse of things that I have done or am planning to do. The purpose of this blog is to capture my journey. How and if I succeed and my failures as well. I hope to network with other like-minded people and to create a community of people to exchange advice and ideas.
Welcome and thanks for reading!
